Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic, painful, all body, inflammatory, rheumatic condition. It is so painful, it actually  shortens life due to suicide and accidents. It is very difficult to diagnose, and can only be done by symptoms. There are really no lab tests to verify the condition. This means it is a very under-diagnosed illness. Population studies show that about 5% of adults in most countries (1 in 20) have fibromyalgia. This affects females seven times as much as males. This usually hits after the age of 50. The real causes are our diet and lifestyle. The major symptoms are:

  • Thinking and memory problems (fibro fog)
  • Headaches, both tension and migraine
  • Sensitivity to temperature, light, and noise
  • Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS)
  • TMJ syndrome (temporomandibular joint disorder)
  • Morning stiffness
  • Muscle stiffness
  • Numbing or tingling of the extremities
  • Sleep disturbances
  • Urinary problems
  • Depression, anxiety, and mental problems
  • Rheumatism
  • Joint pain
  • Fatigue

There is no medical cure for it. There are six types of toxic drugs in 2019 that are given to patients. All of them cause more damage than the portend to mitigate. Analgesics, anti-convulsants, antianxiety agents, muscle relaxers, antidepressants, and alpha-2 agonists. Due to the chronic pain, opiates are given such as morphine, oxycodeine, and hydrocodeine. Read the article Pain Medication.  Opiates are only for the TEMPORARY relief of pain while you are getting well. Antianxiety and antidepressant drugs are given due to the psychological issues. Muscle relaxers to help reduce pain. Anticonvulsants for those who have seizures. Alpha 2 agonists for sedation. It is known to affect almost 20 million Americans (about 5% of the population) currently, and 86% are women. Worldwide, you find about the same rates. Clinicians know this is much more prevalent, as it is so under- diagnosed. You can cure this naturally with diet and lifestyle.

 

Digestive issues are a big part of this. Food allergies are major as well. Read the articles Food Allergies, Colon Health, and Good Digestion. Do the Good Digestion program for a year. Acidophilus, FOS and glutamine can help here. A study in the Scandanavian Journal of Gastroenterology (v 8-9, 2012) showed food allergies and IBS to be central to FM. Eat only macrobiotic food, two meals a day, don't eat out, and take your lunch to work. Diet is everything. Don't eat Nightshade vegetables such as tomatoes, potatoes, and peppers. Obesity is an important factor, and you must lose weight to get better. You lose weight with diet, exercise, and lifestyle, not Magic Supplements. Studies in Arthritis Care and Research (v 62, 2010)  and Journal of Pain (v 11, 2010) showed obesity is a major cause in FM. You must lose weight by making better food choices. Eat a whole grain based diet, and avoid meat, poultry, eggs, dairy products, refined foods, and desserts of all types. Fat makes you fat, not food per se.

A study in Clinical Biochemistry (v 45, 2012) demonstrated this. 

 

Minerals are one of the basic causes of every disease and medical condition known. Take All Your Minerals® with 17­­ elements. Mineral deficiencies are one cause of FM. A study in Rheumatology International (v33, 2013) showed magnesium supplements to be effective.  A study (Journal of Korean Medical Science v 26, 2011) showed lower levels of calcium, magnesium, iron, and manganese in women with fibromyalgia. No matter how well you eat, you will never be mineral sufficient.

 

Vitamin D is very important, but do not take more than 1,200 IU total if you are not out in the sun. If you are out in the sun, just take the 400 IU in All Your Vitamins®. At the Karachi Civil Hospital, 80% of people with fibromyalgia were found to be seriously deficient in vitamin D. Women with fibromyalgia in Saudi Arabia (Pain Medicine v 13, 2012) were found to be universally low in vitamin D. You can also take 500 to 1,000 mg of GABA daily. A study in Arthritis and Rheumatism (v 64, 2012) showed low levels in both male and female patients. Do this only for one year. GABA is not normally needed to get well.

 

Omega-3 fatty acids are important here. The best source of all is refrigerated flax oil, not fish or krill oil. Read the article Flax Oil is Amazing. You can take a 1,000 mg softgel a day, but it is better to buy bulk refrigerated high lignan flax oil in 12 or 16 ounce bottles. Take 1/2 teaspoon a day (2.5 grams). There is no doubt that omega-3-fatty acids are vital here (Journal of Complimentary Medicine v 7, 2010)

 

Balance your hormones without a doctor. Read Balance Your Hormones. An article in the Journal of Pineal Research (v 50, 2011) showed, "administration of melatonin (to humans) was effective in the treatment of FM." A study in Pain (v153, 2012) showed that growth hormone administration was very effective. You want to balance your DHEA, testosterone, pregnenolone, melatonin, progesterone, T3 and T4. Women need to balance their three estrogens as well, especially estriol. Studies in the future will prove the value of overall hormone balance. All your hormones work together in concert as a team in harmony.

 

You must exercise gently without causing more damage to your muscles and joints. The problem here is exercise intolerance. Walking is good, as is swimming. Here, aerobic is better than resistance due to the muscle and joint pain. You may not be able to do resistance exercise or other strenuous programs at first. Be careful, and err on the side of caution. Do "soft" exercise, so you do not aggravate your condition. As you improve, you will be able to do more and more all the time. In the American Journal of Physical Medicine (v 91, 2012) the doctors found safe exercise to have dramatic effects on FM. Exercise also reduces pain, so less opiates are needed. A meta-review of the literature in Rheumatology International (v 30, 2010) showed the dramatic  benefits of gentle aerobic exercise

You must stop any bad habits like coffee, alcohol, tobacco, desserts, etc. Bad habits will simply aggravate your condition. Fasting is the most powerful healing method known.

 

The psychological implications here are major. Depression and anxiety are foremost.

People with FM have very different personality profiles than healthy people. A study in Clinical and Experimental Rheumatology (v 28, 2010) showed they differ specifically in such traits as novelty seeking, harm avoidance, reward dependence, and persistence.

Most patients end up on psychiatric drugs. This just makes them worse in the end. A study at Gentoffe University Hospital in Denmark (Arthritis and Rheumatism v 62, 2010) proved FM depression causes greatly increased suicide rates. Sleep (and restless leg syndrome) is generally so poor that sleep drugs are prescribed. This is the Royal Road to Hell. One in four American women are taking some kind of psych drug. Do not even think of doing this.
