Supplements You Need (2023)

If you are over 40, or in poor health, these are the proven permanent endogenous (occurring naturally in our daily food and/or in our bodies) natural supplements you need to take. People under 40 only need ten. Diet is the way to good health, along with exercise and a healthy lifestyle. No amount of supplements (or hormones) will make up for not eating and living well. Spending $100 a month on these is infinitely more effective than a million dollars worth of after-the-fact health insurance. Read the article Don't Get Health Insurance. That’s how to be well folks. (Hormones are covered in How to Balance Your Basic Hormones). Please read my booklet The Supplements You Need. Here they are:

Beta glucan 400 mg. The most powerful immune enhancer known to science. Read my booklet What is Beta Glucan? A must for all ages.

Beta-sitosterol 300 to 600 mg of mixed sterols. Helps prevent cancer, normalize cholesterol, enhance your immunity, and other benefits. Vital for prostate and breast health. This is in every vegetable you eat, only not nearly enough.

Lipoic acid 400 mg to insure antioxidant activity and good blood sugar metabolism. Best blood sugar supplement of all. Don’t be taken in by “R-only” scams.

Glucosamine 500 to 1,000 mg to keep your bones and joints strong. Read the article Bone Health. This needs co-factors such as minerals, vitamin D, and flax oil. Hormone balance and exercise are also vital here.

All Your Minerals® has 17 minerals in the biologically required amounts. This is the most complete mineral supplement on the face of the earth, light years ahead of the rest. Read my booklet The Minerals You Need.

All Your Vitamins® are free with All Your Minerals. The RDA for all 13 known vitamins you need. You get a special bioavailable form of vitamin B-12 as methyl cobalamin.

Vitamin E 200 IU of mixed, natural. This is one of our most powerful antioxidants, and helps insure good heart and artery health- CHD is the biggest killer of all. Take 400 IU of mixed, natural (not synthetic) every other day. 400 IU will thin your blood.

Vitamin D 400 to 800 IU in addition to the 400 IU that is in All Your Vitamins®. “Vitamin” D is not a vitamin at all, but a powerful hormone most people are deficient in. This is the most important, powerful, and deficient vitamin of all. Do not take more than 1,200 IU total, and do not take extra if you are in the sun regularly. More is not better. Read Vitamin D is Amazing article.

Beta carotene 10,000 IU. Better than vitamin A, and 10,000 IU is all you need. One of the most powerful antioxidants we have in our bodies. Time proven. Do not take the 25,000 IU forms as this is simply an overload. More is not better.

Flax oil 1,000 mg. The very best source of omega-3 fatty acids to insure good heart and artery health. Buy and keep this refrigerated. Great science behind this. You can take more by using a half teaspoon of bulk refrigerated flax oil from the health food store. Beats fish oil. Read the Flax Oil is Amazing article.

PS (phosphatidyl serine) 100 mg is a relative of lecithin (phosphatidyl choline), and an excellent brain, memory, and cognition supplement. Helps prevent senility and Alzheimer's.  Use with pregnenolone and flax oil. Good for your overall nervous system.

Sulforaphane 1,000 mcg has many and various benefits. Read the Sulforaphane article to learn more about this broccoli sprout extract. Great science on this amazing supplement.

CoQ10 100 mg has numerous studies behind it as an antioxidant. Our levels fall as we age. You must take 100 mg and no less. “Special delivery systems” are an advertising gimmick. This  is well worth a mere 33 cents a day. Do NOT buy ubuiquinol, or other cheap imitations, despite the false claims. Take only real Japanese biocultured ubiquinone. The market is very misleading here because real CoQ10 is expensive and difficult to make. Read the two CoQ10 articles.

NAC 600 mg (N-acetyl-cysteine) is a better way to raise your glutathione levels than taking gluthione itself.  Glutathione is a major antioxidant enzyme.

Acidophilus 6 billion units with 8 different strains. Buy this and keep this refrigerated. Keeps the healthy bacteria alive in your digestive system. Use with FOS and L-glutamine.

FOS (fructooligosaccharides) 750-1,500 mg to feed the good bacteria in your intestines and synergize the acidophilus and L-glutamine.

L-glutamine 2-4 grams a day (use AM and PM) help keep your digestive tract healthy, and also spikes your growth hormone level. A powerful, proven amino acid. Or 1 tbsp bulk powder.

Quercetin 100 mg is a proven natural antioxidant. Dietary studies show we only get about 10 mg a day, so 100 mg is more than enough. A borderline necessary supplement.

DIM 200 mg (diindolylmethane) is twice as strong, and half the price, as I3C (indole-3-carbinol). If your estradiol and estrone are in low normal range, you don’t need to take this. Helps normalize excessive estrogen levels in men and women. Read the Estrogens article.

Carnosine and any form of carnitine (ALC, propionyl carnitine) are animal proteins. Vegans, vegetarians, and macrobiotics should not use these.

Spend $100 a month on these proven supplements to live longer and better. This will do you far more good than thousands of dollars of needless health insurance. There are also temporary exogenous (not in our daily food or in our bodies) supplements to take for about six months. This includes curcumin 500 mg, milk thistle 200 mg, aloe vera 200 mg, ellagic acid 200 mg, and green tea (decaf) 300 mg. Read the article Rejuvenate Your Liver, and take 3 g (6 X 500 mg) of TMG for 6-12 months to revitalize your liver- the largest internal organ we have. DIET, proven supplements, natural hormones, weekly fasting, regular exercise, no Rx drugs, and stop any bad habits like coffee. This is what natural health is all about.

Those under 40 should read the Supplements for Younger People article, and take beta glucan, All Your Minerals and Vitamins®, flax oil, acidophilus, FOS, glutamine, sulforaphane, vitamin D, and vitamin E.
