Eat All You Want and Lose Weight -

There is a wonderful study in volume 38 (2000) of Nutrition and Cancer on low fat, complex carbohydrate based diets. They fed real women foods like rice, vegetables, beans, fruits, salads, and soups. Doctors at the University of California studied women who were on HRT (synthetic, un-natural estrogen therapy), and ones that were not. They used both pre- and post-menopausal women as well to get a fair balance. The doctors realized that high fat diets cause high estrogen levels and high rates of certain cancers in women, especially breast, ovarian, cervical and uterine.

The really amazing part of this study is that the women ATE ALL THE FOOD THEY WANTED! That's right; they ate all they wanted, 24 hours a day, with no restriction of the amount of food at all for the three weeks the study lasted. Now, three weeks is a very short time, so you can't logically expect much in the way of dramatic changes- but there were many dramatic changes just from changing which foods they ate. They didn’t even exercise! In just 21 days!

First of all, these women lost weight, even though they ate all they wanted all the time. In only three weeks the ones on dangerous hormone therapy lost 4 pounds. The others lost almost 2 pounds. Think about this for a minute- if you can lose 2 pounds in 3 weeks you could theoretically lose 32 pounds a year and never be hungry for a minute.

All the women lowered their total cholesterol, lowered their "bad" LDL cholesterol, and raised their "good" HDL cholesterol. In the HRT group total cholesterol fell a full 17%, LDL fell by a full l6%, HDL went up 13%, and triglycerides fell by a whopping 26%. Their blood sugar levels fell very significantly as well. High blood sugar is a predisposition to diabetes. In the HRT group blood glucose fell 7%- which is very dramatic. This is proof that complex carbohydrates found in whole grains, beans, and fresh green and yellow vegetables produce ideal blood sugar and insulin levels. It is fats and sugars that upset our blood sugar metabolism and pancreatic function. Their levels of sex hormone binding globulin (SHBG) went up strongly- 39% in the HRT group. What does this mean? SHBG attaches to sex hormones like estradiol and estrone, so they are biologically unavailable. Now the women had lower levels of free, bioavailable estrogen, and were more protected from various cancers, heart disease, diabetes, and other illnesses.

The most important finding was not just losing weight however. The most important finding of all is that INSULIN levels fell an unbelievable 63% in the HRT group. Let’s say that again- they lowered their insulin levels by almost two thirds. They did this in only 3 weeks by making better food choices. Read the article, Insulin is Making You Fat. This is the most important hormone, along with T3 and T4, for weight loss. Americans, especially over the age of 30, tend to overproduce insulin. This is known as "insulin resistance", as the cells no longer react properly to it. This is real world proof that diabetes, insulin resistance, hypoglycemia, and Syndrome X can all be cured by diet alone. These women didn't even get supplements or natural hormones. Imagine the results if they had about twenty natural supplements, and natural hormones such as progesterone, DHEA, melatonin, pregnenolone, and estriol? Why didn't you see this study in the media? Why didn't 60 Minutes, Dateline, 20/20, 48 Hours, Primetime and the other news show tell you about this? Why doesn't your doctor know- or care? Why wasn't this on the front page of your newspaper or on the 6:00 news? This was done in three weeks with the women eating without limitation. They ate all they wanted all the time. They just made better food choices.

Better food choices will make you slim and good looking, allow you to live longer and live better, improve your entire blood lipid profile, raise your SHBG and make you more cancer resistant, and greatly lower your insulin levels.
