Diabetes Can be Cured

Diabetes is just one of the blood sugar metabolism conditions we suffer from in America. There is also insulin resistance, Syndrome X (metabolic syndrome), and hypoglycemia. Americans now eat more than 160 pounds of various sugars every year especially high fructose corn syrup. A 42% intake in fat calories, mostly refined foods, epidemic obesity, lack of exercise, and other factors go along with this national sugar addiction. Fat, sugars, refined foods and lack of exercise are the basic causes of our current diabetes epidemic. One in three American children born today will grow up to be diabetic! Please read my book The Natural Diabetes Cure.

The hallmarks of blood sugar problems are 1) obesity, 2) high cholesterol and especially triglycerides, 3) hypertension, 4) insulin resistance, and 5) high fasting glucose levels. First of all, test your blood glucose level. It should be at 85 or less. The usual advice of “under 100” just doesn’t cut it. You want a blood sugar level of 85 or less. If your fasting blood sugar is over 85 get a one draw, one hour glucose tolerance test (GTT). You’ll drink a cup of glucose and have your blood sugar checked after one hour to see how well your insulin is reacting. This is better than testing insulin levels per se, as it shows the effectiveness in the insulin receptors (insulin response). You should also have your cholesterol and triglycerides checked while you’re there. Your total cholesterol should be about 150, whereas the average American adult runs about 240. Your triglycerides should be under 100 definitely. Even people with genetically high cholesterol can stay under the 200 level. If agrarian peasants in Third World countries can routinely have levels like this, why can’t you? It’s not genetics; it’s lifestyle and diet. When such people move here and adopt the American diet they get just as sickly as we are.

What can you do to prevent or cure blood sugar problems? As long as you have an intact pancreas you can cure yourself naturally of any of these conditions including outright diabetes. First of all, please read my The Natural Diabetes Cure and Zen Macrobiotics for Americans. You can also read good books by Susan Powter, Neal Barnard, Robert Pritikin, Dean Ornish, Gary Null, Terry Shintani, and any of the macrobiotic authors like Michio Kushi.

The most important factor is to EAT WELL. Diet is everything as always. Whole grains, beans, most green and yellow vegetables, seafood, soups and salads will be the basis of your daily fare. No red meat, poultry, eggs, desserts or dairy products.

NO MORE FRUIT, FRUIT JUICE, OR SWEETENERS OF ANY KIND until you are well. All sugar is sugar, and all sugar is “natural” (such dangerous chemical aberrations as sucralose are worse). Fruit is full of fructose (fruit sugar) and has very little nutrition anyway. Please read  Fruit Has No Nutrition in our library. Diabetics cannot properly metabolize sugar of any kind, so don’t eat any. This includes honey, molasses, maple syrup, amazake, fructose, xylitol, stevia, lo han fruit, SomerSweet® or anything else that’s sweet. When you’re well, you can eat 10% local (not tropical) fruit.

Always remember that supplements are very secondary to what you eat. If you don’t eat well no amount of supplements is going to help you. Which ones should you take?

     Lipoic acid 400 mg.
Beta glucan 200 mg, and 400 mg for the first year.
Beta-sitosterol 300 mg, and 600 mg for the first year.
All Your Minerals along with All Your Vitamins. No other mineral supplement has 17
elements in the amounts you need.
Vitamin C, but only 250 mg. Do NOT take more than this!
CoQ10 100 mg, and no less than 100 mg.
     Beta carotene 10,000 IU.

Vitamin D 400 IU in addition to the 400 IU in All Your Vitamins.
Vitamin E 200 to 400  IU of mixed tocopherols, not the single alpha tocopherol.
     Acetyl-L-carnitine (ALC) 500 mg.
Flax oil 1 gram daily, and 2 grams for the first year.
     NAC (N-acetyl cysteine) 600 mg.

Minerals must be emphasized here. All minerals work together in concert as a team. Therefore must take ALL the minerals you can and not just the few that have been studied for blood sugar conditions such as chromium, vanadium, and selenium. The biggest vitamin companies in the world only offer about 10 different elements in their top-of-the-line mineral supplements.

If you are over 40 you can also take 2 grams of L-glutamine, 750 mg of FOS, acidophilus 3 billion units, DIM 200 mg, phosphatidyl serine (PS) 100 mg,  and glucosamine 500 mg for your general health.

Temporary supplement for six months would include TMG (betaine) 3 g (6 X 500 mg), taurine 500 mg, and glucomannon (konjac root) or fruit pectin (citrus or apple) 3 g (6 X 500 mg). (Do NOT use ripoff, overpriced modified citrus pectin.) Stop after six months.

Why haven’t we mentioned such highly promoted supplements like Gymnema sylvestre, Coleus forskoli (forskolin), bitter melon (Momordia), cinnamon, and nopal cactus? Because there simply is no real published science on these. That’s right, it’s all advertising.

Insulin is obviously one of our basic hormones, but it is only one of our basic fourteen. All our hormones work together in concert as a team. This means we must balance all our hormones as much as possible so the insulin can work properly, especially if you’re over 40. It must be emphasized that all your basic hormones must be at the youthful levels you had at age 30 as much as possible for your insulin to metabolize well. You can test most all of your hormones inexpensively without a doctor with saliva except for the thyroid hormones T3 and T4, pregnenolone, melatonin, and GH. You must test and balance your DHEA and testosterone (yes, women need androgens, too). You should take melatonin and pregnenolone if you’re over 40. Women should test all three of their estrogens, especially estriol. Both men and women should use progesterone cream, but don’t really need to test for it. You can test your free T3 and free T4 (not your TSH or T3 uptake) without a doctor (see Test Your Thyroid for $85 in our free library). You can also do a 4 sample (9/1/5/9) all day cortisol test if you want. If you are over 50 you can use Jintropin or Hygertropin growth hormone (GH) sublingually in vodka for about $120 a month. This will take care of all your basic hormones.

Exercise is always desirable, but with diabetes and blood sugar conditions you MUST exercise every day. You have to exercise to get well. You are not going to cure yourself unless you get daily exercise such as walking a half hour. Join a gym. Put a universal machine in your spare bedroom. Go to an indoor swimming pool. Take up jogging. Move to southern Florida. Do whatever it takes so that you get realistic physical exercise seven days a week.

Unfortunately, most people with blood sugar dysmetabolism are unable to fast even for one day. If you can fast safely for one day just eat dinner on, say, Friday night and then eat dinner on Saturday night. Just water for 24 hours.

DIET, supplements, hormones, and exercise will cure you as long as your pancreas is functional. 90 to 95% of diabetes is non-insulin dependent (type 2) which is caused by lifestyle and not genetics. One in three children born today in America will develop type 2 diabetes! This is simply incomprehensible that we have allowed our health to go to hell like this. All this can be prevented and can be cured by making better food choices more than anything else. We eat twice the calories we need, eight times the fat we need, and 160 pounds of sugars we don’t need at all. Overfed and undernourished.

Nearly all our grains are refined and we get little exercise. Americans eat 1% whole grains on the average rather than 50%. This is why diabetes is now an epidemic in America and has affected our children. One in three children in America will grow up to be diabetics! This is insanity. We’ve lost our direction. We have failed folks.
